I don't have any intel nics here, but have you tried the e1000 driver in the kernel (CONFIG_E1000) ? (apparently, with documentation in Documentation/networking/e1000.txt). What often happens with nics is that the manufacturer commissions or writes a driver, but later kernels include a suitable driver.
