Funny you should mention that. Immediately after reading the above, I read the following on the HAL mailing list... From Kay Sievers : The next udev version will not store anything in its database if not : neccessary. So udev does not need to write 600 pretty useless database : files and HAL does not need to process the information that is already : contained in the sysfs-path. So, there's some good news for you - sounds like most of the stuff in that /dev/.udevdb directory will soon be going away. That ought to drop the memory usage a bit. Simon.
