Actually, I wasn't that stupid. idecd is compiled in. hotplug has gone
on strike, and won't make nodes for /dev/hda3(swap) and other ext3 file
systems, so the box gets fed up and won't boot.
BTW, You're usually talking 20 years or else a lot of temprature cycling
to get electrolytics to dry out, in my experience. Of course, reverse
the polarities, and they'll really make a spectacular mess for you.
