Because I built HLFS/BHLFS-SVN-20050709. In that book 'shadow-4.0.10'
(without
any patch) is installed for the base system. Hence, I have continued with
the same during my build of BLFS.

Yah, that is what i should have done. But presently i am at a rather remote
place
with a rather slow dialup to which i have only a limited acces. Hence this
call to the List. Sorry if it was a bother!
There is a similar patch for 4.0.10 in patches archive. 4.0.11+ is
fixed however. As Randy mentioned, you'll still need the sed to
login.defs in the current BLFS Book.
Will try to download '4.0.11+' version. downloading even a small package on
this d..' connection is a pain. I hope version '4.0.11+' does not require a
patch.
