Nothing to do with gcc4. Tried the printer today on a previously working setup on a different machine. The device appears fine, but obviously there is some sort of internal fault causing it not to be identified.

It lives! Reverted to my /old/ system (approx LFS-5.1 with a 2.6.11.12 kernel and static devices) and I'm back in business. Thought I had it working in LFS-6.1 on that box, but I've upgraded kernels and udev since I last printed. Possibly, something is broken in recent kernels or udev, or more likely I've broken my kernel configs.
