A few months ago Rhandir Phagura posted a problem with
gnome-control-center not showing anything but a blank window. Now I'm
getting the same problem.

Rhandir said that he was able to get g-c-c working when he exported the
environment variables XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, XDG_DATA_DIRS, and XDG_HOME, and
ran it from an xterm window instead of from the desktop icon. I did all
that, and still there's just a blank window with the title "Desktop
Preferences".

Interestingly, this was reported as a bug in an early release of
gnome-control-center-2.10, but I'm on 2.10.2.

Like Rhandir, I'm not running the full gnome desktop; I installed the
libraries and core system and only use them for applications that need
them like Evolution. My window manager is blackbox. gcc is 3.4.4 and
the kernel is 2.6.12-2. But the same problem occurs when I modify
~.xinitrc to launch gnome-session-manager rather than blackbox.

Has anyone else encountered this and found a solution? Or can y'all
suggest a way I can track down the cause of the problem? I'm barely
literate in c and I don't know how to use a debugger, but I'll learn if
it will help.
