I do have fun with two. I have a laptop which has a touchpad (I use
the synaptics driver for the event interface, but it also works if
configured through the mouse interface. I also have a usb trackball.
For some time the trackball worked. Suddenly it didn't. Upon closer
inspection I noticed that they were both set to /dev/mouse0. I have
to assume that when it was working, the kernel had placed it first,
when it stopped working it must have ended up on mouse1. I changed it
to mice and everybody was happy.

Thank you,
