I'm new on this list and have not seen your original post, so I could 
not help you earlier. The problem is most likely a GCC bug. You are 
probably using -O3 in your CXXFLAGS. The problem has something to do with 
automatic inlining, since passing -fno-inline in addition to -O3 to g++ 
solves the problem as well. GCC 4.1 also fails to properly compile 
emacs-21.4a with -O3 (the emacs lisp compiler segfaults during the build 
process). These problems probably should be analysed and reported, but I 
have neither time nor skill. At least the aspell build failure occurs 
with GCC-4.2 also.
