[EMAIL PROTECTED] : /root-bash-3.00#

This is after I commented the export PS1 lines in in bashrc and
profile in /etc. I also double checked .bash_profile in the home
directory of root, which I created just yesterday, and it doesnt
have any references to PS1. How can I remove the "-bash-3.00 part
from my prompt?
What does 'echo PS1' say? I had some trouble with double bash prompt
when i followed the BLFS instructions that was caused by the
/etc/profile.d/extra-prompt.sh. That don't seem to be the case here,
though...

That should be "echo $PS1". "echo PS1" will always give PS1 as you probably well know.
Upz.. yes, of course. I was a bit hasty writing that reply..
And after reading the following mails, I would suppose it's the extra-promt.sh that's cluttering the prompt. If so, the "echo $PS1" will actually show excactly what you'd expect, because the extra-promt.sh sets the PROMPT_COMMAND variable. Typing "echo $PROMPT_COMMAND" (notice the $ :-)) would reveal what it's set to.

When I figured this out, I just deleted the extra-promt.sh, and started tinkering with the PS1 variable instead.

Apologize for any inconvenience caused by my typos. :)
