Hi,
1. may be you should use vesafb and NOT radeonfb for console
   don't compile radeonfb
   don't compile radeonfb
   don't compile radeonfb
2. make sure you have the kernlsources in place :-)
   should be there if you use LFS
3. make sure you boot the right kernel
   this is what I did wrong ... theheh
   messed around for two days since I realized I used the wrong
   grub/menu.lst ...
4. try the normal way
5. if it does not work ... extract with
   ati-driver-installer-8.21.7-i386.run --extract
   yes the 32MB file ...
6. cd fglrx-install
   ./ati-installer.sh x690 --install
   replace x690 with your X-version
   cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
   ./make.sh
   cd ..
   make_install.sh
   /usr/X11R6/bin/aticonfig
