You can check out artscontrol and mplayers settings to see what device they are 
actually using. Kinfocenter could also give you some *info* :)

In my kinfocenter the sound device of alsa has a device no. of 116 and I use 
the same modules as you (soundwise) You could try linking /dev/dsp to 
/dev/snd/controlC0 and see if that helps as some programs are hard coded to 
/dev/dsp.
