Sorry, I didn't spot all of that. Yes, undoubtedly a version
problem - glib, gtk, pango, and atk need "matching" versions (but
they all make their own decisions about numbering). The svn
version of BLFS has gtk+-2.8.16 with glib-2.10.1, atk-1.11.3, and
pango-1.12.0, so it is safe to assume that these have been tested
together.

Again, the version may be important. Unless you follow gnome
development, keep to the versions in a book. BLFS svn is usually
stable, but keep an eye on blfs-dev because gnome version upgrades
involve so many packages that the book might be in a state of flux
for a few days when an editor decides to go to 2.14.

No idea, unless it is something new, you probably do not want to
try to set it.
