Well, that whill be short : both mcopidl and dcopidl are compiled fine during
the build process, without any warning or error of any sort, but when they
are called, they both crash with a segfault. But never mind for that, I
really think that this is due to one or more packages that are too old for
kde3.5.2....

Well... It will overwrite software that have the same name... For example,
cupsd will still be cupsd and you're right on that point, it will overwrite
them. But what for packages that comes with shared librairies ? I will then
have both the old version and the new one on my system. Can this be harmfull
or will that be harmless ? From my point of view, it will be harmless because
newer versions are always prefered to old ones, but asking to be sure might
be careful !

How could I say that you're wrong ? This is so obvious... But, in the last
monthes, I've installed both lfs6.1 and blfs6.1 packages I needed, and
installed without any error KDE3.5.0... It was not recorded in any of the
blfs books I could read at this time, and it worked fine. Maybe that since
then the KDE developpers have come to use something that is not compatible
with blfs6.1.
Never mind, Thanks for your advices. I'll read and follow the blfs-svn book to
upgrade my whole machine before I try again to install KDE. If I'm
successfull, I'll answer my message to say "it works". And I hope it
will ;-) !
