Yes, I have. I am in the post-HLFS stage, so to speak.
It is more difficult, but I'm sure I am learning a lot more in the process.
I am using it, because I have the hardware for it.
I have one of these mini-itx Via Epia boards, which I am building into a
PVR. It has various weird non-PVR-like extras on board, such as a
hardware number generator and encryption support.
The HLFS system is making proper use of these things, so that is a plus.
On the software side, the HLFS system is probably a bit slower but a lot
more secure. ( Slower, as in nanoseconds in execution time, not in
actually noticeable slower performance. )
Be prepared to recompile things again and again after you have finished
the book, because not all software out there can be molded into a 'safer
shape' easily. But sofar it is still doing everything I want it to do.
I see it as BLFS, but better/more, sort of.
But without the hardware I have, I wouldn't have started it. The safety
the system offers probably isn't worth the required effort, if it
becomes a non server machine.
But hey, if you want to learn, go nowhere else. The satisfaction is a
lot higher. :-)
