Hi again.

Well, I can say that it works again. But I can't say what's going wrong. At
first, as I said, kdeinit seemed broken. Even running it inside a chroot
didn't work. Well, for some unknown reason, I decided to try booting an old
2.6.15 kernel, without nvidia drivers... and it worked. I didn't have xorg
working, but kdeinit wanted to run. It complained about no $DISPLAY and so
on, but... Then I recompiled qt, kdelibs and kdebase. Back to normal... until
this morning. Segfault again. Reboot with 2.6.15, back to 2.6.16 and voilà.
Even after rebooting again and again, or halting the box and boot again, kde
kept working. So I suspect there's something bad in the new kernel. Perhaps
when I boot it, it triggers a bug, but when before it I boot from a "working
state" the bug doesn't show up. I don't know. I'll do some testing some more
days, and if I can reproduce it I'll try with the latest stable kernel and
try again.
