I used gcc4 to build my clfs pure64 system and most of the patches i needed 
were stuff that you needed for gcc 3.4 anyway.  Ive acutally had more issues 
with x86_64 then with gcc4.  So my opinion is its ok to move over.  I wont 
however say that it will work with everything but you will probably have just 
as much isssues with gcc4 that you do with gcc3
