I have read the ln manpage. I have searched the internet. I hope someone can clear this up for me:

ln -s -v ../../path/to/target somename or directory

Specifically what I don't understand is the ../../ portion.

I am used to using links that look like ln -s -v /my/file/one two # without ../../
which results in two -> /my/file/one

Can someone please explain what this syntax means. I have seen it in various places in the BLFS book and I just want to understand what this does.

Thanks.
