You probably saw my self-reply after you wrote the above, but just in case... yes, that was the answer. In the past, launching Evolution automatically launched the gnome-settings-daemon and related services, but now I had to add that to my .xinitrc before starting the window manager. > On my system, it's in /usr/sbin If you use the standard blfs config commands for Gnome packages, it goes to $GNOME_PREFIX/lib/control-center. Since I do need to call it manually, maybe I'll rebuild control-center and put libexecdir in $GNOME_PREFIX/bin . -- Peter B.
