I've got an ATI Radeon X600 which is supported by DRI. (RV380)
I think I've compiled all the correct stuff into the kernel:
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON_I2C=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON_DEBUG=y
I assume I don't need any more specific radeon modules or drivers.
As you can see in glxinfo the 3rd line says
direct rendering: No
Also in Xorg.0.log near the bottom:
(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
You should have also agpgart for your chipset. This is essential for the
dri. It is not radeon specific though.
