Hi Shawn, Hi Dan,

thank you very much for your explanations, specially for the very extended one 
from Shawn. After setting the variables and issuing the 
"update-desktop-database"  and "update-mime-database" commands kde started 
working smoothly. Should this issue not be short included  into the book ? at 
least I could not find it, and withouth hints I would still beeing working on 
Christmas ( 2006, :-)  )
