 I think you've enabled something in your kernel config which you
probably don't want.  I guess it's CONFIG_BLK_DEV_UB.

 It's part of the framebuffer.  So, you need need the correct
CONFIG_FB_something for your hardware, AND you need to pass the
correct options to the bootloader.  For example, this box has a
radeon card so I pass video=radeonfb:[EMAIL PROTECTED] to get a 128x48
console.
