Can someone point my a reading, explaining how the locale and encodings
are supposed to work in KDE.
I thought I knew, but now I am convinced that I was wrong. Now all my
"knowledge" about locale, fonts and encodings has collapsed.
When I completed installing and configuring X on my fresh LFS system,
everything looked perfect. As I am using polish locale
(LANG=pl_PL.ios88592), I got polish 'ogonki' on console in text mode and
on xterm, and there were no problems with encodings in firefox and
thunderbird.
I was able to make files containing polish letters with 'ogonki' and
every piece of software was able to display their names and content
properly. Also mounted samba resources with filenames containing polish
letters got a proper look.
After having installed KDE (only aRTS, kdelibs, kdebase and kde-i18n-pl)
I got proper text on windows but polish names in filenames are broken.
konsole does not display filenames with polish 'ogonki' properly and
keyboard input with 'ogonki' does not work properly (it displays glyphs
from the iso-8859-1 charset). Contents of text files can be properly
displayed in konsole if you manipulate with the encodings setting.
How to make things right?
Searching LFS mailing lists archive I found some patches to the utf8
hint, however the hint itself does not exists :-(
