no problem compiling and installing them. Follow Alan Lord's advice. If you 
build e.g. upon the directory /opt, you will get two dirs /opt/qt-3.3.x 
and /opt/qt-4.x.y. Introduce a link "ln -s /opt/qt-3.3.x /opt/qt" to  work 
with the 3 version. You will need to change this link to qt-4.x.y if you want 
to work with qt 4. It is _not_possible to have both systems working at once.  
That's the point. Apps looks for "qt", not necessarily for a specific 
version. I had good experiences with this, with exception of kdevelop, but 
that is another issue.
