What do you have in .xinitrc? When you execute startx, it just tries
to run all the commands there and shuts down X when done. If .xinitrc
doesn't exist, I think it falls back to the default in
$XORG_PREFIX/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc.

Your log looked like everything was working fine.
