For what it's worth, Dan, I'm running newest versions of pretty much everything mentioned in that thread, no problems. D-Bus 1, hal and friends from git (so close to 0.5.9), and as of yesterday Gnome 2.18. All is good. So far, the only non-Gnome pieces needing changing from a 2.16 system were Totem requiring an upgraded xine-lib, and gedit apparently switcing to Enchant for spell checking instead of aspell. Simon.
