It sounds very interesting, but really this is beyond my knowledge. The reason I started with the Mayflower script and used klibc was because they provided a starting point. I don't really have a firm understanding of how the initramfs process works. I was just happy to get the root mounted :) I'd be interested in hearing more if you find out anything else about it, though.
