Thanks to everyone who emailed back. The issue was with both my ipv4 and dcpcd
files in /etc/sysconfig/network-devices/ under my network card being set to
startup=yes. I just had to disable the static ip file (ipv4) in order to get
my dhcpd working correctly and startx to resume proper operation. I guess xorg
does have some interfacing feature with these files, because console apps ran
fine even before the problem was fixed.
Open source support rocks...Thanks a lot guys!

I think XOrg is the clue. Have you added IPv6 addresses to /etc/hosts?
Something like:
# add myself to the known network hosts
192.168.1.110 panda.lan panda
# IPv6 version
::FF:192.168.1.110 panda.lan panda
