No large files, no - I'm not one for downloading tv shows and stuff, so I've got very few files more than 50MB. Might give ext3 another go then. I've used it from time to time for my root partition - that's easy to change whenever I reinstall the OS - but reformatting /home is a much bigger deal. And ext3 has the convenience of being part of the base LFS install... Thanks for the advice, taipan and Lauri. Simon.
