It sounds like you have sound file preview on in Nautilus. Go to
Edit->Preferences in Nautilus. The last tab is Preview. Change Preview
Sound Files to never. Strange, that's never worked for me.

It looks like you're missing the mad gstreamer plugin which is in
gst-plugins-ugly and requires libmad.
