 I didn't know 2.12 was out - gtk.org shows 2.10 as the current
stable version. But, the problem seems to be specific to firefox so
there is no reason to suspect gtk, it could be something in X, or
pango, or a graphics library. In my builds, firefox gets built well
before gnome (after graphics libraries - X needs png, jpeglib hasn't
changed in ages, and gecko browsers don't seem to use the other
graphics libs), cairo, glib, pango, atk, gtk+), the only other
thing is libIDL. In your case, maybe libgnomeui and its
dependencies are also relevant (particularly libbonoboui,
libgnomecanvas, libgnome, libbonobo, gnome-vfs). You are obviously
not afraid to use newer versions - take a look at what you are using,
and if you have the data, see what has changed since your last
successful build.

I loathe the firefox build system (works fine on x86, but
increasingly problematic on other architectures) and I try to avoid
touching it, but perhaps you can persuade it that you don't have the
required gnome dependencies (my logs show it checks for
gnome-vfs-2.0 - search for that string to see what it is looking for),
and rebuild it again without gnome-vfs to see if that is where the
problem happens.

 I'm sorry, this isn't particularly helpful - I'm hoping to build a
new desktop next week, but so far I haven't seen the problem.
