Thanks for the response.  The script is straight from the book
with no changes.  The line in the script does show 
"COMP_METHOD=" but there is nothing after it.  Since i didn't make
any changes I am not sure why the other lines are messing up.
I am using the development 5 nov release of the blfs book.
