Thanks for the advice. I pressed on and ran a diff on the two files and they didn't look much different, so I took a chance and symlinked *slang_version_syn.h* to *slang_pp_version_syn.h* and it built OK. I haven't tested it yet though. I did run into another problem later on with *lnx_agp.c* when building xorg-server with *glibc 2.3.4*. I found your remedy on the freedesktop lists, and it worked a treat. It really had me beaten. I can't thank you enough - you really do know your stuff. Thanks again.
