As an easy alternative to custom udev, just give the filesystem a decent
label, then refer to it with that. E.g:

~$ ls -l /dev/disk/by-label/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2008-07-25 20:38 boot -> ../../sda1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2008-07-25 20:38 home -> ../../sda6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2008-07-25 20:38 swap -> ../../sda2
