NM is a daemon for managing network connections, particularly ones like
wireless or 3G that are routinely started and stopped by desktop users.
Very useful program for laptops and other machines with wireless
connections, but not much use if your connection is ethernet and doesn't
change much.

It's the new file manager, replacing Konqueror as the default. Konqueror
is still there for those who want a power tool, but Dolphin is the
friendly option for 'normal' desktop users.
