The oss radeon driver is coming along nicely and does support the newer
cards through the r600 stack, though I don't believe it to be supporting
any features beyond the r700 chips yet. It should be okay with the HD5
series The driver in seeing radical changes daily and has strong
developer support and will be the driver of choice when mesa 7.8 and the
.33 kernel come out. Some of the dev's are AMD employee's and they are
pushing the code though legal as they right it.

Right now 3d and KMS require bleeding edge Mesa, DRM, Xorg -ati driver
and a .32+ kernel to work well. They are not as feature complete as the
catalyst driver, but as I said they are moving quickly. Honestly I'd
wait a few months for the OSS driver to stabilize and stick with the NV
card. The ATI prop. driver tends to trail the kernel your likely
running by several months.
