OK. This made the trick. I built exactly the versions you suggested. It is now 
working on my PC, and wicd-client shows also up in my Laptop, but here it 
seems to have connection problems. May be a question of configuration ? I will 
try to fix it, perhaps I will ask you for help, if I do not find the way. But 
one machine seems at least be working.

Anyhow, many thanks for your help and for Simon Geards' advice. I hope, others 
may profit also from this issue.
