If it's actually a default option, that's even worse - we can't just provide a note explaining what ENV_SUPATH is used for. You're saying that unless the user performs a specific action (i.e modify root's login scripts), the version of Shadow *with* PAM will behave significantly differently from the version installed in LFS. That's not good... it doesn't teach anything, it just gives the user problems with no clear reason. If these things *must* be done, they should be instructions in the book, even if those instructions are as simple as saying "root's login scripts must be changed to add /sbin and /usr/sbin to the path". A simple "Note:" just doesn't cut it... Simon.
