I finally got round to a remedy (I hope) of the above problem. I installed xorg7.5 with the nouveau (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/) driver. However I have some problems:- ----------------- PROBLEM A: I followed the instructions for installing ADDITIONAL fonts given here ( http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/cvs/x/x-setup.html ) My xorg.conf fils has lines such as The files section of xorg.conf has lines such as FONT PATH "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/abcdefg" (abcdefg =font directory) however on starting the X , the logs show the following:- ########## WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/dejavu". Entry deleted from font path. (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/dejavu"). (WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/freefont". Entry deleted from font path. (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/freefont"). (WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/fireflysung". Entry deleted from font path. (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/fireflysung"). (WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/baekmuk". Entry deleted from font path. (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/baekmuk"). (WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/kochi". Entry deleted from font path. (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/kochi"). (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/OOtruetype" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. (**) FontPath set to: /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/misc/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/TTF/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/OTF, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/Type1/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/misc/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/TTF/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/OTF, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/Type1/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/, /usr/X11R7.5/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/ ################### ----------------------- PROBLEM B: On starting X with the instruction X -retro -config ~/xorg.confXXX ( http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/cvs/x/x-setup.html) the Control+Alt+Backspace does not work. I could not find a way to stop X save crashing the setup. ----------------------------- PROBLEM C ( realy some clarity) Is it advisable to have Load "glx" in the modules section of Xorg.conf for this driver? advice welcomed lux-integ ps sorry about the long post but I hope it helps the context. -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
