It wouldn't seem like it'd make a difference.  If you are not seeing
mplayer segfault with any audio stream, you are probably safe with the
version that you have.  I do not recall why, but it seems to me that
either faac or fadd2, the newer versions, were contributing to the
segfault (but not the cause of it).
