This was a 'probing attempt -no tests were performed. However
I needed TEX in the first place because of octave-3.3.52 which fails to make
without TEX using default settings.
After carryying out the above I did another run on octave and it failed with

I did a check of the TEX instalation and it does not have texi2dvi. I would
be grateful if you or nyone else on list could advise how this could be
compiled in.

I just did a check and found out that texi2dvi is part of the texinfo program
installed with clfs. However texlive2009 does not seem to want to platy
with it.
Suggestions of workrounds would be appreciated.
