For xorg (I'm including Mesa as part of xorg), I think it's a bit harder - you need to work out which parts fit with the version of xorg-server that you choose. So, in my case I'm sticking with the 1.7 series (current for xorg-7.5, AFAIK xorg-7.6 hasn't actually been released yet), although I repeat that anyone actually using the radeon r200 needs Mesa-7.7.1.
