Err...in xdm-config. DisplayManager.requestPort: 177 If set to zero, your command line switch will not have any effect. Make sure you put * in Xaccess for testing, you can secure it later. Beyond that, IDK, it should just work. I don't actually use xdm and only gdm locally, so my comments may be useless.
