Issues I've had in the past:
1) Make sure you re-read the last of the Xorg section and see
if you
followed it exactly.
2) Make sure Xorg is sXid root.
3) Check our Xorg.log file. Maybe something's up with your
video card?
For example, I had to install the closed-source Nvidia file for my desktop
computer for
me to stop getting the black screen. Post your Xorg.log for us to read if you
run into
trouble. Also, if you can't do the ctrl-alt-del to get out of X, check and see
if you can
do it by exiting from your gui/window manager.
