 I looked at the 1.5.20 patch and it did say it's origin was upstream. 
Looking at the patch, I don't think I needed for my mail setup anyway.

I tried 1.5.21 with no patch and it seemed to work fine other than some
issues with new mail notification which may be due to changed 
configuration options or something, but I don't have to time to sort it
out now and have reverted to 1.5.20 till I get BLFS built.

 What I mean't by missing was that instructions tell me to install a
patch that doesn't seem to exist.

 You and the other editors have done a great job updating BLFS and your
efforts are appreciated.
