 For intel, there seem to be enough problems between machines that
appear to use the same hardware, that I can't rule out kernel
problems.  BUT -

 "Setting up Linux console..." is the point at which you are loading
a console font.  Which font have you specified in
/etc/sysconfig/console ?  Can you try a bigger / different font
there, if only to prove that the choice of font is not the problem ?

 Perhaps try lat0-16 and iso01-12x22 ?
