I have done this long ago. But when using a machine which had the clock late by a very large amount of time, each time I turned it on, I discovered that this still did not work: after some time, ntpd had crashed. Looking in other distributions, I discovered that they only used -g. So I did, it took a little long to get the correct time, but no crash, anymore. This seems to be an old bug (at least from 2005).
