It's been a couple of years, but something similar has happened before in either Gnome 2.28 or 2.30 (seems to me it was this exact problem, but I'm not absolutely positive on this). It turned out to be a change in xulrunner or webkit (I forget which, but that was in addition to missing gvfs and gnome-doc-utils).
