Thank you both. Using wget solved the problem; I was using Opera. I was aware my md5sum differed. However, I downloaded it several times with the same result and assumed the file had inadvertently been changed on the server end. I simply didn't think there'd be a problem with such a small file. I didn't use the common sense to try another method of download.
I still don't know why Firfox and Opera present problems, but I'll remember for next time.
