It seems I'm embarrassingly behind (in general; here, script-wise),
so please bear with me:
1. What happened with 'consolelog' script?
("dmesg -n $LOGLEVEL", ... "read level line < /proc/sys/kernel/printk")
It is still mentioned in the 9724 book,

consolelog
Sets the kernel log level to control messages reaching the console.

but I haven't been able to find it.
2. What happened with S99local (levels 3, 4 and 5)?
[script 'rc.local',
# Do something (start up some local processes, etc.)
# right at the end of the boot sequence.]
