I haven't tried btrfs yet, but aren't you mixing apples and oranges? btrfs is a base file system in the vein of reiserfs and to a certain extent ext4, while mdadm is a tool for controlling software raid. mdadm is a utility to create a software raid array and a base file system (ext2/3/4/reiser/btrfs, etc) would be layered on top.
